Animated Map Of How Our Planet Will Look In Another 250 Million Years

As per the theory of plate tectonics, the outer shell of the Earth is divided into many plates which are glided over the mantle. So the surface of the Earth is changed slowly over time by merging or separating the continents.

We have used projections from Chris Scotese — a professor with Northwestern University’s Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences here to show the appearance of the Earth in 250 million years.

Scotese has made a study of how plate tectonics and climate warming will enable to change the Earth’s appearance in the future, and he has created many animated maps based on the research he had done.

Check out Scotese’s YouTube page for more animations on tectonic plate motions in the past and present.
